Weekly Roundup #84: Office life and Kristen Bell

Weekly Roundup #84: Office life and Kristen Bell

Last week I went to Sea. Hear. Now. Festival in Asbury Park and, despite being sick the whole time (🙄), had a great time soaking up the san and the beachy tunes! Ok, I was definitely a party pooper on Saturday night because I was exhausted from pretending I wasn’t sick and in pain from being sick….but besides that! Ripe. Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Jade Bird, Dispatch and Donavon Frankenreiter (a new find!) were my faves. Check out my 2019 Fests Insta Highlight for some sneak peeks of the weekend!

Reading

Outlander, Diana Gabaldon. I did not realize this book came out so long ago! Excited to finally see what all the fuss is about though.

Young People Are Going to Save Us All From Office Life, The New York Times. God, I hope so.

6 Trends Our Editors Love for Fall (and 4 We’re Ready to Retire), PureWow. I was very into mint green five years ago so I can get into this one. (Still have some of the tops too…🙈) But can I just say, I will probably never get into the power suit. Thats two pieces you have to buy lol. And I really don’t think I could pull it off. But to those who do? More power to ya, ladies!

From Cult Antihero To Critical Darling, Kristen Bell Is On Fire, Refinery29. I LOVE HER. “ ‘I think my presence confuses people sometimes because I don't know if it's unexpected or if I'm weirder than I even think I am,’ she admits, then gives the idea a positive spin: ‘I am honored to be one of the human beings that is representing women who can't be defined.’ “ I love that she’s still insecure because it makes me feel better knowing there’s always more to learn and that if Kristen Bell, of all people!, is insecure, it’s definitely ok for me to be too.

Jonathan Van Ness of ‘Queer Eye’ Comes Out, The New York Times. My heart aches for young Jonathan, but I so admire and appreciate this 2019 Jonathan. He has paved the way for young people who may have otherwise felt SO alone to see someone they can relate to and connect with and I think that is so so important, especially in today’s society.

Who Is Richard Ramirez, The Real Serial Killer In American Horror Story: 1984? Elle. The Night Stalker is in “American Horror Story??”

I Never Saw Models With My Skin Condition, So I Became One, Refinery29. LOVE this.

Who Would Tavi Gevinson Be Without Instagram? An Investigation. The Cut. Apparently she’s like the “OG” influencer? I know her name, but, I’m probably really outing myself here, I don’t know who she is, necessarily.

These Inexpensive Steals Are Made By The Same Companies As Luxury Brands, Ranker. This is SO interesting. I love that I never have to give Kylie Jenner money because I can just buy ColourPop (also, ironically my Love for this week!) instead. 😂

The Story of Caroline Calloway & Her Ghostwriter Natalie, The Cut. I still don’t really know who this chick is and I really don’t get why she’s “famous,” but this was a really engaging read. Calloway sounds like, well, all of the following: “a female Billy McFarland, both characters from Ingrid Goes West, Anna Delvey with an art-history degree” and someone I would want to thoroughly avoid.

Giants bench Eli, elevate Jones to starting QB, ESPN. Poor Eli 😢

Listening

June, After Dark, Elliot Root.

Daphne Blue, The Band CAMINO.

Origami Lover, Gold Spectacles. WOW, I love her voice.

Just Exist, Eliza & The Delusionals.

When I Wasn’t Watching, Mandy Moore.

Check out my Tunes highlight for my most-recent listens!

Watching

Elite, Netflix. Ok…hear me out. It’s not good necessarily…BUT it is the epitome of guilty pleasure. I only watched it on my nights alone and it was definitely addicting. Although, I really wish they didn’t dub English over because I’d rather hear the actual actors’ voices and emotions and just read English subtitles. Can you give us this option, Netflix?? I’m already salivating for Season 3! WHERE IS CHRISTIAN??

The I-Land, Netflix. Now, this? This was just straight-up bad. I guessed what was going on somewhere around the second episode and it doesn’t get any better. The dialogue. The acting. The characters. God. Fuck it all. In fact, I think that’s what the writers/directors/actors/producers said when creating this show.
