Weekly Roundup #93: Culottes and the Grammys

Weekly Roundup #93: Culottes and the Grammys

The Grammys were last night and usually, if I’m going to watch one award show a year, this is the one. This year I honestly forgot about it until we got home around 6 pm and I just had no desire to get into it. Oh, we also are entirely cable-free now, so forgot I couldn’t even watch it 😅 but you know what? With all the 24/7 media now, I don’t need to. I had like 20 emails in my inbox this morning about Billie Eilish’s wins (yay!), Lizzo’s performance (amaze) and how Nick Jonas had spinach in his teeth (um, awk). It took the pressure off watching it live and I’m all for that. Maybe one of the major benefits of this 24/7 news cycle we have? Also, I can’t stop thinking about Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant and all the victims of their helicopter crash, both living and dead. My mind keeps spiraling on their last moments…if anyone out there is also super empathetic and has a coping mechanism for this, please drop in the comments.

xoxo,

Katie

Reading

Milkman, Anna Burns. This book feels like it could be in many places in our world right now, but I believe it’s set in Northern Ireland. I like the fact that there’s a lot of places/people that remain unnamed so you can place yourself into the novel, with your own experiences and images.

These Are The Wardrobe Essentials Forecasted To Go Big In 2020, Refinery29. I’ve gone back and forth on wanting to get a trench coat, but I think I’ve ultimately landed on it being a no-go because I just never end up wearing my more silhouetted jackets. I end up leaning toward the comfy ones, like my teddy coat. Culottes are a maybe, I’ve always wanted faux leather ones. Definitely into utility bags…I have so many fanny packs. Dickies?? Hell no. Leather pants? Only if they’re faux. I have a few options now and I’m very excited about both of them (comfy leggings and not-as-comfy, but super cute moto pants). And, finally, I do really enjoy the idea of the IDGAF style, so…you might see me sporting a body chain sooner rather than later.

Community Post: Your Sustainability Tips, The Greatest Hits Edition, Girls’ Night In. Some of these do seem really hard to implement for your average apartment dweller, but I have already started with only using electronic notes and working on switching to bamboo products in the bathroom.

One Hundred, Create & Cultivate. I pretty much have always only just paid attention to these four categories: Music, Beauty, Entertainment and Content Creator. This year was no different, except that I’m looking at it all in a new way—as a content creator, myself. So that was kind of fun. Also, love seeing some names of people I already love—hi, Phantogram! 😍 But, I’m sorry, Jessie James Decker? Lol.

My Therapist Says It’s Okay to Stew in Sadness, Elemental. I don’t suffer from depression, but I wanted to read this to see if it could help me interact with my loved ones who do and…not really. BUT, it was an interesting way to look at dealing with it—just let yourself be, don’t feel like you need to do anything to cope in that moment. Maybe this advice will help someone else 💜

The 28 Most Anticipated Mysteries & Thrillers of 2020, Goodreads. Well, I’m definitely intrigued.

Do Teens Still Party? We Asked Them, Man Repeller. This was actually pretty fun to read, especially the clothing part. It makes me happy that people have mostly moved on from having the specific “going out top” of my college days.

In Her Words newsletter, The New York Times. “There’s something deeply sick about the economy,” said Gawain Kripke, the policy director at Oxfam America. “The fact that women around the world are doing so much work that is uncompensated, unrecognized and unsupported is part of the problem.” Highly recommend signing up for this if you’re interested in women’s rights and equality.

Love in the Time of Low Expectations, The New York Times. This one made me sad…

Listening

Broke Bitch, Tiny Meat Gang. I don’t know what it is, but I was VERY into this song.

Simmer, Hayley Williams. Um, yes. I was such a Paramore fan back in high school and you cannot deny her talent. This song was somehow not at all what I expected, but I really liked!

Check out my Tunes 2020 highlight for all my most recent listens!

Watching

All the Grammy recaps.

Sex Education, Netflix. SEASON TWO IS HERE, Y’ALL!!! I’m so excited in case you can’t tell!

Entourage, HBO. Yep, finally started watching this last night. Better late than never, amirite?

Loving

These cloud nails. I’m going to do some fancy nail art for my birthday and I will definitely be using these as inspo!
