Weekly Roundup #99: Quarantine and WFH

Weekly Roundup #99: Quarantine and WFH

Hello, friends. So, last week I talked about not panicking over the coronavirus and to stop buying out your local grocery store’s supplies like an asshole. I still believe all that, but, wow, how the situation has progressed. I’ve been working from home for the past week, in an attempt to do our part to mitigate the situation, but obviously this will be at least another two weeks of this. I work in the wedding industry and it’s been devastating to see all the people who have had to cancel/postpone their weddings. Sending love to everyone stressing out there. Please please PLEASE, practice social distancing, wash your hands and send your loved ones a card or even a text to remind them you love them, even if you can’t see them—also, highly recommend dancing it out.

xoxo,

Katie

Reading

Milkman, Anna Burns. I should just stop including this for the time being, it’s embarrassing…but I just haven’t had any time to read and it’s very upsetting. So, I guess this is my way of shaming myself into remembering to read more when I can.

Big And Small Ways You Can Help Your Community During The Coronavirus Outbreak, Elle. Donate to food banks, shop at your local Asian markets—there are lots of small things you can do over the next couple weeks to help ease the lives of others in your community.

25 Songs That Matter Now, The New York Times. King 👏🏼 Princess 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 number 👏🏼 one 👏🏼

There’s Nothing Effortless About Being a Woman, Elle. This article is everything. “And we can’t value our work until we acknowledge that this is work—this, THIS (please imagine me gesturing expansively at the world)—that existing in a body as a woman in this world is work.”

Sorry, but Working From Home Is Overrated, The New York Times. This is such a privileged statement, but I half agree… As someone who loved working from home before and thought of it as a benefit of working at a flexible workplace, I was somewhat surprised when I was actually required to work from home for at least two weeks. I’m on day four and I miss my monitor at work. Plus, it’s easier to not get distracted and to be fully in work mode while in the office. I also feel like I’m missing out somehow because I’m relaxed at home, but I’m not supposed to enjoy it because I’m working. BUT, I love being able to cook dinner while working or explore my new neighborhood by working at different cafés. I love being able to go for a run at 3 pm or run to the grocery store when I know it’ll be fairly empty. So there are obviously pros, but do the cons make it not worth it if you’re fully remote?

How To Get The Men In Your Life To Give More Shits About Women’s Rights, Girlboss. Lead by example by attempting to have non-judgemental and non-defensive questions—it’s annoying that we have to lead, but, hey, we do what we have to.

Donald Glover Surprise Releases Collection of New Music, Rolling Stone. I was wearing my Childish Gambino sweatshirt when I read this…😍 but then I couldn’t listen and that’s devastating…

Coachella Postponed Due to Coronavirus, Live for Live Music. If they postpone Firefly (or Gov Ball), I will have to smack someone. Also, you knew this was coming after Ultra.

Sophie Turner Is the Chill Best Friend You’ve Always Wanted, Elle. I didn’t need to read this article to know that, but I honestly cannot believe she’s only 24.

Pixar's 'Soul' trailer is an unbelievably sweet look at death, Mashable. Why 👏🏼 is 👏🏼 Pixar 👏🏼 so 👏🏼 good?!

Schitt's Creek's Annie Murphy Is Just So Proud Of Alexis Rose, Elle. I really don’t want this show to be over, but now I’m intrigued by Kevin Can F*** Himself…plus, I love getting to learn new things about the show and the characters now that it’s over.

Listening

(What’s the Story) Morning Glory? Oasis. Obviously, this is not a new album…but my brother got the record for me for my birthday and I’ve really been enjoying it. If anyone needs some soothing (lol, don’t we all?), check it out!

Check out my Tunes 2020 highlight for all my most recent listens!

Watching

Cheer, Netflix. I finally finally watched this show and now I’m so sad it’s over…I need to know what happened to Lexi! And Morgan! And Jerry! Literally all of them!

Loving

Ink Cards. I love this app for sending cards to my grandparents every month. It’s only four bucks per card, generally, and you can get pretty cute ones, including ones with pictures, so I’m probably going to start sending some out this week as well to those I think need a little quarantine uplifting.
